Zwei-2에피소드3-종료 (Stage: 20003) Location: Inside the Library Angela (Library Director) What does it mean to “behave as a machine”? Audio: "ch3_Zwei_ep3_angela9" Roland (Servant) Boy, not that topic again… Audio: "ch3_Zwei_ep3_roland12" Angela (Library Director) Someone I used to know loved to say that phrase. Audio: "ch3_Zwei_ep3_angela10" Roland (Servant) Like I told you before, making machines with emotions or sapience is forbidden. Even if one were to be made, the Head has long settled the ethical implications and all that. Audio: "ch3_Zwei_ep3_roland13" Roland (Servant) That means they’ve decided on a solid answer for the long-standing question: “How is a machine with emotions different from a human?”. Audio: "ch3_Zwei_ep3_roland14" Roland (Servant) Their answer being: “Even if a machine carries emotions and intelligence, and is nearly identical to a human in every aspect, it is still a machine by birth. Machines should always be below humans…” Audio: "ch3_Zwei_ep3_roland15" Roland (Servant) “…Therefore, it is now forbidden to create sapient machines as they can disrupt the proper judgement of societal values. Furthermore, all existing sapient machines may be subject to termination regardless of ownership.” Audio: "ch3_Zwei_ep3_roland16" Roland (Servant) In short, “Machines are machines, and humans are humans. Machines exist solely to serve humans.” is what they’re saying. Audio: "ch3_Zwei_ep3_roland17" Roland (Servant) That’s the mindset people in the City decided to have. Audio: "ch3_Zwei_ep3_roland18" Angela (Library Director) Where would human brains stuffed in heaps of scrap metal belong? Audio: "ch3_Zwei_ep3_angela11" Roland (Servant) Those would still technically count as humans. Some might consider them “defiled”, and others might look down on them, but the brains themselves are natural. Audio: "ch3_Zwei_ep3_roland19" Roland (Servant) You get what I’m saying? Audio: "ch3_Zwei_ep3_roland20" Angela (Library Director) What about an electronic copy of a human brain? Audio: "ch3_Zwei_ep3_angela12" Roland (Servant) That… would be a machine. Since it’s not “born” human. Audio: "ch3_Zwei_ep3_roland21" Roland (Servant) To be frank, I don’t really get these standards, either. Audio: "ch3_Zwei_ep3_roland22" Roland (Servant) I guess birthright matters to them the most. Audio: "ch3_Zwei_ep3_roland23" Roland (Servant) Maybe it’s a defensive reaction born out of the urge to “preserve” humanity as a species. Audio: "ch3_Zwei_ep3_roland24" Angela (Library Director) …That’s unfair. Audio: "ch3_Zwei_ep3_angela13" Roland (Servant) Nothing is ever fair in this world. Audio: "ch3_Zwei_ep3_roland25" Angela (Library Director) You’re right, it seems everyone lives with a share of unfairness they must bear. Audio: "ch3_Zwei_ep3_angela14" Roland (Servant) Now you’re talking like a City dweller. Audio: "ch3_Zwei_ep3_roland26"
